The Other Guys = Hot Fuzz + The Daily Show

It really is.
Its Hot Fuzz‘s genre critique and The Daily Show‘s political-social satire that made this movie genuinely enjoyable for me.
There were some poorly constructed moments and subplots, but they neglectable.

America is the city upon the hill

For many years, I have look to America with insatiable interest. I observe how ideas thrives, dies and evolve in the American jungle of memes. A jungle filled with fantastic demagogues, hacks, intellectuals, pundits, satirist, revolutionaries and extremist of various persuasion. I wonder why old ideas like creationism with its various evolved iteration are entrenched amount the folks. I inquisitively follows how new technology like Internet are conjured up and applied to the masses. I am often sadden by the nihilistic political opportunists and inspired by idealistic technological entrepreneurs. I have learn much from America.

I am not the only one.

The rest of the world too look keenly to the America laboratory, letting Americans test out ideas first before they imitate what worked, avoid what failed and then modify further for local consumption.

This is just one of ways that we free ride on the American. Its ok, Americans don’t mind. They have since their founding fancy themselves as the city upon the hill where example (of good and bad) are set to be followed (or not).

Why won’t the Pentagon help WikiLeaks redact documents?

Glenn Greenwald asks
The reasons seem obvious to me.
Pentagon fears that in working in official capacity with Wikileaks, it may:
(A) legitimize Wikileaks,
(B) undermine their case against the Wikileaks if its was ever bought to the court, and
(C) Through cooperation additional information such as context, reason for redactions would be revealed to Wikileaks, leading to potentially more embarrassment.

Its all sums up to reflect the negative kind of establishment instinct towards outsiders.

New York Times is probably siding with Pentagon against Wikileaks, to preserve their relationship, and fend off the threatening challenger in Wikileaks and their business model.
To the contrary, I actually think that it would be a great competitive advantage for the NTY to establish a regular working relationship with Wikileaks, few news media organization have such access.

I love Sunshine Girl

I was immediately mesmerized, i love this song.

Sunshine Girl by Moumoon
Lyrics by YUKA / Melody by K.MISAKI

Make up, and dressed Are you ready to go?
Weather is great, it’s your holiday
We gotta party all day long

Happy day Summer day
Sunshine Girl
I like it, Happy day Summer day
Sun shines for you×2

Sky
Sunshine Girl

Holiday

Happy day Summer day
Sunshine Girl
I like it, Happy day Summer day
Sun shines for you×2

Hello

Happy day Summer day
Sunshine Girl
I like it, Happy day Summer day
Sun shines for you×2

Woo yeah
Woo yeah

Holiday

Make up, and dressed Are you ready to go?
Weather is great, it’s your holiday
We gotta party all day long

Happy day Summer day
Sunshine Girl
I like it, Happy day Summer day
Sun shines for you×2

Opposition to Park51 is kind of dumb

Opposition to Park51 (aka. Cordoba House) reflect the Christianist backlash against Islam extremist in the post 9/11 world of arguably the worst kind.

Below is a summary (and crude generalization) of the various philosophical leaning and their various response against Islam extremist:
Moderate atheist – religious extremism is the problem
Moderates religious sympathizers – Islam extremism is the problem
Anti-Americanism – American Middle Eastern policy is the problem
New atheist – Religion is the problem
Christianist – Islam is the problem

-Moderates of either kind probably have the best intellectual foundation to form a pragmatic strategy against Al Queda. Their response allow them to ally with moderate Islam and isolate extremist in their own society.
-Anti-Americanism response would be for the US to fundamentally change their Middle East, which is probably unrealistic (but I really dont know enough about it).
-New Atheist approach is intellectually appealing and coherent, but they are either insensitive to the spiritual need of the religious or unable to put forward an alternative to satisfy that need (evidently, secular humanism is just not attractive enough).
-Christianist approach lumps Islam extremism together with moderate Islam. It is by far the most hypocritical, tribal(my religion is better than yours) and dangerous response. It alienating moderate Islam and submitting to the clash of civilization narrative favored by the extremist.

If the right wingers are as patriotic and Al Queda hating as they are, they should really have that mosque built. There is really no good reason for the opposing it, except for dubious short-term political gain.

on the Ground Zero Mosque

Commentator Kellyk311 on the Ground Zero Mosque (thats not actually on ground zero).

I am disturbed, distraught, distressed and saddened over the community center for Muslims being built near ground zero.

The center itself does not bring about these feelings, but rather the intolerance and outright bigotry that has become increasingly apparent due to its being built.

I am disturbed by the level of vitriol being perpetuated by some people, distraught at the reactions of so many of my fellow citizens, distressed that building a community center for religious followers could cause such a rift among our nation, and saddened that all of this is taking place not in some country that is intolerant of religious freedoms, but in a country whose founding documents called for the exact opposite.

Two wars, countless lives lost and total collapse of our finances later, we have learned nothing from of all of this. We are giving into the very extremists that terrorized us on that early September morning by allowing ourselves to become as religiously intolerant as they were.

I feel the same.
